What manual would you guys suggest? I know they sell various books/manuals over the counter but not all are the same. Edmonds and Haynes are two that come to mind, but I don't know if one is better than the other. I need one that would cover the basics. Oil, lube, plugs, breaks and such.

I've had both.  Haynes is a little better with sequential steps but they have an annoying tendency to use the term "Assembly is the reverse of disassembly" when describing rebuilds.  If you just need it for minor repairs and service information, either one should be good.

Do they make manuals for cars that new?

EDIT:
Having a real hard time finding a US manual for the Echo (also known as the Yaris in the UK and AU).
Found this: http://www.pitstop.net.au/view/marques-toyota/page/query/plu/16478/
and this: http://www.autorepairmanuals.biz/site/573683/product/1844252657

They're both the same book and they appear to be for non-US cars.

daddog,
I found a pdf of the 2000-2002 service manual at this site-

http://pdftown.com/2000-2002-Toyota-Echo-Service-Manual.html

It looks very complete, not sure of differences between 2002 and 2003 so you might want to look into that. It's a free download and it passed virus scan for me.

Thanks guys. That is a big help. After posting this I looked around and could not find one for the 2003 Echo. Just as Dogma had a hard time.

Time to do the breaks and I have not done those before.

Should be cake on the brakes.  Good find on the pdf, Baumer!
